Here’s a great resource for social studies units dealing with communities and individuals interested in genealogy and history.  The Penny Postcards website allows users to search for communities by state and then county to find images of penny postcards from the past … take a trip down memory lane and see what your community looked like at another point in time.

Through some savvy shopping by Rob the district was able to obtain several new Canon PowerShot digital cameras.  Each of the buildings received multiple cameras with the exception of WECEC which received one (sorry, smallest population …)  The cameras are available for checkout by staff through the media centers.  Media staff also have access to the software that came with the cameras and will be happy to load the software onto your computer.  The cameras are very user friendly and the software to move the pictures from the camera onto your computer is super easy to use!  We hope you will take advantage of these new cameras and use them with your students!

Sorry for the lack of posts lately. I’m close to getting things back under control after our much needed Christmas Break and hope to start posting more regularly again this next week. For today, something fun … we’ve all heard that prisoners make our license plates here in the state of MI, but other than that, I had never given much thought to how that piece of metal becomes the identifier for my vehicle. Visit the link below to take a virtual tour of the MI license plates factory @ Parr Highway Correctional Facility. http://www.cqql.net/adrian.htm

Use this calculator to be sure you are not having too much or too little income tax withheld from your paycheck. According to the website: “It is not a replacement for Form W-4, but most people will find it more accurate and easier to use than the worksheets that accompany Form W-4. You may use the results of this program to help you complete a new Form W-4, which you will submit to your employer”

Merriam-Webster’s Word Central website offers many tools and fun activities for kids and grown ups alike.  Visitors can search the dictionary, thesaurus and a rhyming dictionary, right from the main page.  Have you invented a word?  Submit your word creations and let everyone else know what they mean … read other people’s word creations, some of them are kind of fun! The Daily Buzzword gives you a “word of the day” including the word’s pronunciation (which is written out dictionary style as well as available audibly), the word’s part of speech and definition(s) are also listed as well as an example of the word’s use in a sentence.  A one question quiz is also supplied to help test your knowledge. An RSS feed of the Daily Buzzword is available for those who have reader pages.  The site also includes a page of links to various educator resources.
