The Picturing America website is part of an exciting initiative from the National Endowment for the Humanities to bring masterpieces of American Art into classrooms and libraries. The gallery is searchable by image, artist or theme, and each image includes additional information about both the image and the artist, and offers links to quality web resources related to either the image or the artist. This is an awesome resource not only for art lessons, but also as a place to get images to accompany lessons in other subject areas. This would also be a great source for students to get high quality images for projects.
